Wild animal in Zakopane, resident warns. “One step away from tragedy”

Zakopane

A resident warns against a wild animal that runs through the streets of Zakopane. Tourists come too close.

According to a resident of Zakopane, the irresponsibility of tourists exceeds all limits. A deer could be spotted on the busy Jaszczurówka Street in recent days. A wandering wild animal that showed no fear of humans became a star among passers-by. Guests petted the deer and took photos with it, regardless of the danger. This could end in tragedy.

A deer walks around Zakopane

A visit to the Tatra Mountains often involves the opportunity to see wild animals. However, they usually naturally avoid people. Those who managed to spot wild animals from a distance and then get away safely can call themselves lucky. However, not everyone has an innate instinct for self-preservation. Some tourists cross the borders significantly, initiating contact with the inhabitants of forests and mountains. This happens especially when the animal leaves its safe haven and goes on a trip to more “human” areas.

Such a situation occurred recently in the center of Zakopane, on the busy Jaszczurówka Street. It was there that a stray deer was spotted approaching people and eating food from garbage cans. Unfortunately, the walkers did not react to his presence as they should have. Instead of keeping a safe distance, they chose to pet the cuckold and take souvenir photos with it.

Residents condemn such behavior

This is not the first time such scenes have occurred in the capital of the Polish Tatra Mountains. In November, there were also reports of deer walking in the city (it is unclear whether in this case we are dealing with the same individual). Each time, residents sharply condemned the behavior of tourists who treated animals like mascots. “We, the people, allow this behavior. These are wild animals. Why do you pet them, why do you feed them?” – reads one of the comments. “Maybe this should be a topic to address as well. People approach the deer, stand next to it, take photos with it and pet it. This may be a step away from tragedy,” says a resident who, with the help of Tygodnik Podhalański, publicized the case. Zakopane residents fear that the caught animal may be euthanized.
