Widzew Łódź will be the best in Poland? A great businessman one step away from taking over the club

Szef Panattoni o krok od przejęcia Widzewa

Sport is not only competition – these are dreams, emotions and hopes of thousands of people. Widzew Łódź is facing a chance for a new chapter in its history. Will the change of the owner meet the expectations of the fans?

Widzewa fans have not been easy in the last 25 years. This period is a band of falls, declines, defeats, failures, weak players, and bad management. In 2015, the club was reborn like a phoenix from ashes. He started from the fifth level of games on the ruins, which Sylwester Cacek left behind and people who ineptly managed the club with him. The club, which in the 1980s and 1990s celebrated great successes, both on the national and international arena. To this day, these successes are affected by the older part of the Widzew community. Because for nearly 30 years no success that you could talk about for a long time.

Only the last few years has been a light in the tunnel, a breath of hope that it will be possible to refer to old traditions and successes. A new stadium, which can accommodate about 18 thousand Viewers (as it turned out, too small for the needs of the club), healthy, sensible management with a long -term vision, in the meantime a return to the Premier League in 2022. The club is largely alone, has many sponsors (private business, not funds from the city), it develops profits. Although recently the first team does not record the expected results and takes 13th place in the league, it does not blow with a disaster that everyone sensed at the end of the term of office of the extremely inept rule of Sylwester Cack. Benefit mainly with the Sphinx brand, a businessman of the desire may have good, spent a lot of money on the club, but it ended in the aforementioned disaster. It is to be different now.

Robert Dobrzycki and Panattoni. New Hope Widzewa Łódź

The figure of Robert Dobrzycki, his company Panattoni, as well as Widzew Łódź is one of the main topics of both sports and business media recently. It will certainly be so for several weeks, while the businessman officially takes over the club, and maybe longer. Widzew, although there have been no sports successes for a quarter of a century, generates enormous interest among football fans.

On Monday, March 17, Dobrzycki announced that he had come to a full agreement with the current Widzewa authorities, in particular with the owner Tomasz Stamirowski, regarding the investment in the Łódź club.

So, there are many indications that Widzew Łódź will hit the hands of a rich man who was in business. Repetition of entertainment? Many might think so, because in 2007, when the club took over the above -mentioned Cacek, the hopes were equally great. “We are building a great Widzew” – this is a slogan that sectorwidzew.pl reminded today. The slogan with which Cacek came to Łódź. Although the beginnings did not look bad, it was later only a tilt in every respect and the club simply fell. Now, however, the situation, at least for logic, looks different. Dobrzycki is not a man outside the Widzew world. The Łódź club has been officially supporting for several years. The Panattoni logo is displayed on the first team’s match t -shirts. The entrepreneur also has a business lodge at the stadium at al. Piłsudski, from which he watches matches. He also became a member of the club’s supervisory board. But this is not enough. His dream is one – have his own club and be successful with him.

Changes, changes, changes. And bold announcements

Even before Dobrzycki officially appears in the club in a managerial position, we are already dealing with a revolution. The bandaid of the first team resulted in the farewell to coach Daniel Myśliwiec, and the lack of real reinforcements of the team farewell to the sports director Tomasz Wichnik. Croatian Željko Sopić became the new trainer, who was brought to the club by a recently employed sports director, namely Mindaugas Nikoličius from Lithuania. Both men did not work in Poland earlier, so it is difficult to assess how they will find themselves in our conditions and whether they will be able to find a common language with a new, yet unofficial owner. However, one is certain. The announcements are ambitious.

The fight for a place in cups next season is possible. We will make as many transfers as you need to make Widzew great – Mindaugas Nikoličius said in an interview with Matzyki.pl.

Populism? Whitewash? Or maybe the actual announcement of great successes? Answer yourself.
