Why was the head of the SOP suspended? He was to reward the “faithful” and suppress the “inconvenient” ones

At the beginning of last week, Marcin Kierwiński’s ministry announced that Brigadier General Radosław Jaworski had been suspended from his duties. One of the daily newspapers wrote about why the Ministry of Interior and Administration made such a decision – the editorial team cites sources in the SOP in its findings.

On Tuesday (January 20), the Ministry of Interior and Administration published a press release on social media (including on the X platform). “Disciplinary proceedings were initiated against the commander of the State Protection Service – Brig. Gen. Radosław Jaworski. As a result, he was suspended from performing his official duties,” the ministry reported last week. The Ministry of Interior and Administration also indicated that the duties of the head of the SOP were taken over by his current deputy, Colonel Tomasz Jackowicz. The same information was also provided to the media by Kierwiński’s spokeswoman, Karolina Gałecka.

Why did the ministry decide to suspend General Jaworski? Unofficially, anonymous SOP officers told “Rzeczpospolita” about the background of the case. The editors learned that, among others: he had to surrender his service ID and weapons, which was said to be “humiliating” for him. The head of the SOP is now to receive only half of his salary. What actions did he do to deserve suspension?

Did he reward the “faithful” and “suppress” the inconvenient ones?

One of the departments of the ministry headed by Kierwiński conducted an inspection of the personnel policy at the SOP from mid-October to early January this year, the daily learned. Its results are not publicly known. In response to a question about it, the press office of the Ministry of Interior and Administration explained that it was a “multidimensional” inspection. “There were matters of concern regarding the commandant’s management of human resources and financial policy. Therefore, the Minister of Interior and Administration decided to initiate disciplinary proceedings,” said representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Administration.

“Rz” writes that the head of the SOP allegedly treated his subordinates unequally – he was supposed to create special functions of main coordinators for a small group of officers. Thanks to this, they received salaries that were allegedly higher than, for example, police chiefs. – Just as he rewarded the “faithful”, he “suppressed” the inconvenient ones. (…) He changed people’s positions, took away their allowances, and transferred them to the so-called disposition, he abused the polygraph examination to make people afraid. Many cases went to court and “Jawor” lost many of them. But until last summer, the Ministry of Interior and Administration considered appeals in accordance with the commander’s decisions, one of the sources from the SOP reports in an interview with the daily.

What else? The Ministry of Internal Affairs could have been hampered by the good relations between the head of the SOP and the current president

There is another issue – untimely servicing of government vehicles and the fine that could have been imposed on the German company as a result. Millions of zlotys were at stake. – That’s true. It turns out that the deadline for enforcing this penalty has already expired – admits the editor’s interlocutor. It is possible that this was one of the reasons taken into account when deciding on the suspension.

The next one is a positive report by General Jaworski and Karol Nawrocki. The Ministry of Interior and Administration, which stands in opposition to the head of state and people from the president’s cabinet, did not evaluate it positively. The commander of the armed forces himself reportedly did not consent to the dismissal of the commander – hence the suspension, which may take place without a conversation with Nawrocki. The president’s decision would additionally confirm his good relations with the head of the SOP.
