Autumn is in full swing, the leaves are falling from the trees, and new, lush mushrooms appear in the forest undergrowth. The beginning of October brought a short break in the abundance of mushrooms. It was dry and even frosty in places, especially in the north-east of the country. Now the situation is changing for the better. According to the latest map published by the website gryzy.pl, the fewest reports about mushrooms currently come from Podlasie and the Suwałki region.
However, mushroom pickers from the Silesian, Masovian and Łódź voivodeships have reasons to be satisfied – most reports of emerging specimens come from these regions. In some forests, baskets fill up within several dozen minutes.
The weather is favorable for harvesting. But not for long
The weather forecasts are now exceptionally favorable for mushroom picking enthusiasts. In the coming days, atmospheric fronts will pass through Poland, bringing rain and high air humidity, which is exactly what favors the growth of mushrooms. The temperature will remain around 15-16 degrees Celsius, and there is no threat of night frosts for now.
Everything indicates that this weekend will be one of the best times this fall to go to the forest. However, it is worth hurrying, because the forecast for next week predicts cooling and even the first rainfall. Frosts may return at night, which will slowly end this year’s season.
This may be the last call for mushroom picking
Autumn has not said the last word yet, but time is against the collectors. Humidity and moderate heat are the perfect combination for mushrooms, but the approaching cooling may quickly end this special time in the forest.
