What bad luck for the Polish representative! It was literally a moment that decided

Wypadek Kamila Sellier

Gabriela Topolska did not finish the 1500 meters short track quarterfinals after a fall. A nightmare happened to Kamila Sellier. The Polish woman was hit in the face with a skid.

Friday (February 20) is the last day of the 2026 Winter Winter Olympics in short track. As many as three Polish representatives appeared on the track.

Although the most famous in this group is Natalia Maliszewska, it is certainly not a distance in which the Pole can easily find her way. In the case of Maliszewska, we are talking about specialization in short distances. However, in her start in the 1500 meters, she took a quite respectable 3rd place. Although it did not allow advancement to the semi-finals.

Gabriela Topolska was very unlucky. However, the highest ranked Polish 1500 meters runner had a fall. Topolska tried to attack, but unfortunately, she lost her balance and landed in the inflatable band. This is the end of dreams of success at Winter Olympics 2026.

Kamila Sellier is still in the game. Unfortunately, the Pole was even more unlucky than Topolska. During the fight in the heavily contested quarterfinals, a terrible, unfortunate event occurred. The Polish woman was hit with a skate blade by her rival from the United States. Replays of this event – although they appear on social media – are not suitable for showing…

What is most important, however, as co-commentator Patrycja Maliszewska – a former Olympic athlete – said during the broadcast for Eurosport – Kamila Sellier’s eye is fine. And this is the happiness in all the misfortune of the Polish woman at Winter Olympics 2026.

2026 Games in Italy. Where and when to watch the Poles’ starts?

The Polish national team during the opening games consists of 60 athletes. In the 21st century, there has never been a time when a Polish woman or a Pole was not on the Olympic podium during the Winter Olympics. During the last winter games, Poland finished the competition with one medal. The bronze medal was won by ski jumper Dawid Kubacki in the normal hill competition.

Kubacki’s result was beaten at the Winter Winter Olympics 2026 by Kacper Tomasiak, a debutant among Olympians. The 19-year-old great talent won a silver medal in the normal hill competition and a bronze medal in the large hill competition in Predazzo. Additionally, the jumpers also placed second on the podium during the duo competition. Paweł Wąsek performed in the duet alongside Tomasiak.

Another Olympic vice-championship was also won by another Olympic Games debutant, Vladimir Semirunniy, in the 10 km speed skating race.

In the history of the Olympic Games, the Polish national team has won a total of 27 medals – seven gold, ten silver and ten bronze, respectively. Interestingly, the first bronze medal for Poland was won by Franciszek Gąsienica-Groń (Nordic combined) almost exactly 70 years ago, during the Olympic Games in… Cortina d’Ampezzo. This year, history has come full circle in a beautiful Italian-Polish Olympic circle.

Broadcasts from Winter Olympics 2026 in Poland are provided by Telewizja Polska (TVP) and the Discovery group (Eurosport). The event will last until Sunday, February 22.
