During the third day of the XXXIII Economic Forum in Karpacz, the decarbonization of industry and the role of natural gas in this process were discussed.

The third and final day of the XXXIII Economic Forum in Karpacz was full of interesting debates and panels on various branches of the economy. The meeting is a great opportunity to exchange ideas and establish cooperation between representatives of the world of business, politics and science.

Natural gas in the decarbonization process

During this year’s Forum, much attention was paid to the ongoing processes of decarbonization. The discussion entitled “The role and importance of natural gas in the energy transformation” focused on the importance of this fuel as a bridge in the process of moving away from coal and developing renewable energy sources.

Robert Czekaj, Executive Director for Exploration and Production at ORLEN SA, emphasized that natural gas plays a key role in stabilizing the power system in Poland. He pointed to the growth in domestic gas production and ORLEN’s operations on the Norwegian Continental Shelf, where production is forecasted to reach 4.5 billion m³ in 2024. The panelists, including Deputy Minister of Climate Miłosz Motyka, pointed out that gas is an essential element in supporting decarbonization, especially in heating.

Business of the future

During the debate, titled “Building an economic future: infrastructure, innovation, development”, Łukasz Chalaczkiewicz, General Manager EE at LIPTON Teas and Infusions, shared his vision of building an authentic business in the face of changing consumer expectations, especially Generation Z. He emphasized that new generations expect companies to be responsible for the environment and local communities, and the key to success is no longer just technological innovation, but also authenticity and the human dimension of business.

– In today’s world, a high market position and new technologies are not enough to achieve business success. The key is an innovative approach to building teams and putting people at the center of business activities – he said.

Safety culture

Another important point of the day was the debate within the 6th Security Culture Forum. Experts from various branches of transport, including rail, sea and air, considered the importance of investing in technology and training employees.

Dr. Eng. Ignacy Góra, President of the Office of Rail Transport, emphasized that investing in safety culture, both through modern technologies and employee education, is crucial to minimizing the risk of human errors, which are the cause of most accidents in transport. Participants drew attention to the need for continuous improvement of training systems and the pioneering role of aviation in reporting errors as a way to improve safety.

In turn, in the pavilion of the French-Polish Chamber of Commerce, a meeting was held with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Affairs Krzysztof Gawkowski. The topics discussed included French investments in the digital area, cybersecurity, and responsible use of AI.
