We won’t be able to take the day off on Saturday? There is a proposal for changes

Entrepreneurs from the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship appealed to the government to abolish the provision of the Labor Code that provides employees with an additional day off from work for holidays falling on Saturday.
– As Employers of Pomerania and Kujawy, associating over 200 enterprises from the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship, we appeal to the Government of the Republic of Poland to consider amending Article 130 § 2 of the Labor Code and abolishing the obligation to grant an additional day off for holidays falling on Saturday. – we read in the letter of the Employers of Pomerania and Kujawy, the content of which is provided by the website pomorska.pl.
Receiving holiday leave on Saturday. A call for change
According to entrepreneurs, additional days off generate organizational difficulties and costs that affect both the microeconomic level (for enterprises) and the macroeconomic level (for the entire economy).
– The solution used in Article 130 § 2 of the Labor Code not only generates organizational difficulties for employers, but also leads to an excessive reduction in the number of working days per year, which in turn may negatively affect the productivity and competitiveness of Polish companies. The obligation to have an additional day off in companies where Saturdays are off is not justified from the perspective of equal treatment of companies that operate in different work systems – write the authors of the appeal.
Two holiday Saturdays in 2025
This year, Saturday falls on May 3 (Constitution Day) and November 1 (All Saints’ Day). Pursuant to Art. cited by entrepreneurs. 130 of the Labor Code, a day off for a Saturday holiday should be granted in the same settlement period in which a given Saturday holiday occurs. It does not matter whether the time off is granted before or after a given holiday.
Entrepreneurs point out that this year, in addition to the two days off for Saturday holidays, there will be another day off from work, i.e. Christmas Eve. At the end of December, President Andrzej Duda signed a law on this matter.
