Iga Świątek

Will Iga Świątek play in the WTA Finals? The Polish tennis player’s staff decided to end the speculations and announced the decision.

After the cancellation of the performance in Wuhan, tennis fans began to wonder what would happen next with Iga Świątek’s current season. Many were afraid that she would not take part in the most important tournament of that period, the WTA Finals. In an interview with WP Sportowe Fakty, Polish representatives dispelled doubts.

Will Iga Świątek start in the WTA Finals?

– Iga is preparing for the WTA Finals and the finals are planned for the end of this season. The Billie Jean King Cup remains an open issue, no decision has been made yet, Paula Wolecka from Iga Świątek’s staff told journalists.

The best players from the entire season compete during the WTA Finals. The competition takes place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, from November 2-9. The Billie Jean King Cup tournament takes place in Malaga, Spain, and is scheduled for November 13-20.

The last time we saw Iga Świątek on the tournament court was on September 5 at the US Open. The Polish player then lost to Jessica Pegula 2:6, 4:6 and resigned from her job with coach Tomasz Wiktorowski.

Who is Iga Świątek’s new coach?

One of the candidates for her new trainer is Wim Fissette, who recently stopped training Naomi Osaka. Brad Gilbert, who managed Coco Gauff, is also under consideration. Both helped their players win Grand Slam titles.

Polish fans are worried that not taking part in tournaments leads to the loss of ranking points. In the WTA rankings from October 7, Iga Światek has a 1,069-point advantage over her biggest rival, Aryna Sabalenka. At least until the next ranking, our tennis player should maintain the first place, even if Sabalenka wins in China.

However, before the WTA Finals, the WTA Race ranking is taken into account. It counts points scored only in this season. In such a case, Sabalenka would overtake Świątek after scoring 215 points in Wuhan.
