We have been paying more since June. This is how water and sewage fees are growing

Rachunki za wodę

Since June, new water tariffs have been in force in many municipalities. Bills can increase by up to PLN 1,000 a year.

From June 2025, the inhabitants of many Polish municipalities must take into account higher water and sewage fees. New tariffs, introduced as a result of changes in regulations, allow local governments to set rates depending on wear, the so -called Progressive rates. This means that the higher the consumption, the higher the fee.

Higher fees

According to “Infor”, new prices are already in force, among others in Wiązowna, Nowy Targ, Warka and Sieraków. In some cases, increases exceed 100 percent, which means higher bills for households by up to PLN 750–1000 per year. The scale of changes depends on the region. In Wiazownia, the water rate increased by 71 percent. (up to PLN 5.83 net per m³), and for sewage by as much as 142 percent (up to PLN 19.59 net per m³). In Garwolin, the sewage fee went up from PLN 6.57 to PLN 10.30, which gives an increase of 57 percent.

Much milder changes were recorded in Warsaw and municipalities served by MPWiK. There, the increase was about 13 percent. – up to PLN 5.90 for water and PLN 9.00 for sewage. Although not all local governments introduced new tariffs, most municipalities updated them as early as May and June 2025.

Reduction of consumption

The increase in fees is the effect of rising costs of energy, fuels, chemicals, as well as investments in the modernization of water and sewage infrastructure. Residents are not able to question the increases themselves, but in some cases they may apply to spread payments in installments or a social surcharge – if it provides for local regulations. It is also possible to report an error in the settlement.

The only effective way to reduce costs is to reduce water consumption. Experts indicate that savings can bring simple actions, such as assembly of pears, choosing ECO programs in dishwashers or the use of rainwater for watering plants.
