"We do not flaunt images of losses". Warsaw's showcase open, but with exceptions

The effects of the storm that hit Warsaw at the beginning of the week are still being felt. The damage to the Wilanów palace and park complex is being repaired.

On the night from Monday to Tuesday, a storm passed through Warsaw, the consequences of which were very serious. The S8 route was flooded. A flood embankment broke near Wilanów. Firefighters were called to remove broken trees and flooded basements in nearby towns as well.

One of the most important parks in Warsaw, the Gardens in Wilanów (Wilanów Park), which is part of the 17th-century palace and park complex, also suffered damage.

Wilanów after the storm. Significant losses, marked paths

It was not until Wednesday that staff announced the park would reopen. Currently, visitors must stick to designated trails when walking around the park and not enter areas that have been taped off. Managers said that cleaning up the damage caused by the storm is not easy and will take a long time. Water levels are still high.

“We do not flaunt the images of losses (and unfortunately they go much further than what can be seen in the photos). We are worried about how to fix what is broken and we are looking for opportunities. Be with us!” – wrote the employees. Earlier, they showed broken branches in the park and water coming up to the Służewiecki Stream Bridge, on the axis of the Wilanów Palace. The increased water level in Lake Wilanów resulted in the flooding of alleys and lawns.

Second Park Closure This Summer

This is the second time this summer that a storm has caused such serious damage in Wilanów. After a strong storm that passed through the capital on July 13, the park was closed for several days. “Our employees are trying to remove broken trees and branches as quickly as possible, but this takes time,” it was reported in a statement published on Facebook. On July 29, after the broken branches had been removed from the trees and paths, guests were again invited to visit the gardens.

Wilanów Park is open every day except for November 1, 2024. Until September 1, the last visitors can enter it at 8:30 p.m.
