Warsaw's biggest attraction closed. This is what the damage looks like after the storm

Damage from a powerful storm that knocked down trees and blocked roads in Łazienki Królewskie is still being cleaned up. The park remains closed until further notice.

We have another day of cleaning up the damage caused by Saturday’s storm in Warsaw ahead of us. As confirmed by the Museum Guard, the Royal Łazienki Park will remain closed on Tuesday, July 16, due to the unprecedented scale of damage. The park authorities will inspect the trees, which may pose a threat to visitors. We have received photos showing what the capital’s biggest attraction looks like after the cataclysm.

Royal Łazienki Park closed until further notice

The storm that swept over the streets of Warsaw on Saturday completely closed one of its attractions. The palace and garden complex in the Royal Łazienki Park remains closed until further notice. On July 16, three days after the cataclysm, cleaning work is still underway on site. Witnesses speak of an unprecedented scale of damage. “The oldest employees do not remember such a scale of destruction in the garden,” we read in a message shared on the official Facebook profile. In total, at least several dozen trees were damaged, which lie on the pedestrian paths. Some of the broken branches hang over the walkway and pose a serious danger to visitors. The wind was so strong that it even damaged thick branches.

Cleaning work is underway

When will tourists and residents of the capital be able to enjoy a walk in the Royal Łazienki Park again? At the moment, the museum authorities do not have an answer to this question. On Tuesday, a storm will pass over Warsaw again, which may bring further destruction. It is known that the institution will inform interested parties about the opening on its website and Facebook. “We are still observing the effects of Saturday’s storm. Even trees that were not directly damaged may pose a danger during the storm. The Łazienki area is mostly old-growth and we must inspect the garden and trees with particular care for safety reasons (we have several thousand trees on the area)” – reads the latest information provided by the marketing office of the palace and garden complex. After the reopening of the attraction, visitors will have to move along specially designated communication routes.
