Want to buy a used car? It might be harder
The number of car offers in July on the secondary market dropped by almost 3 thousand, from 251,803 in June this year to 248,950. In turn, the median price was PLN 31,400. And it drops month-on-month by about PLN 1,500.
These data come from the monthly AAA AUTO Barometer report based on the analysis of data on used car sales in commissions, on websites and from used car dealers.
– This trend has been going on for years and we are not surprised by it, and it is related to the fact that customers who want to sell their cars postpone the decision due to planned holidays – says Paweł Molasy, Business Country Manager PL at AUTOCENTRUM AAA AUTO sp. zoo in an interview with MarketNews24.
The number of used car offers is decreasing, despite the growing import of cars to Poland for several months. This is due to the lower supply, which is traditionally a result of the holiday season, but also the increasing number of buyers who decide to buy used cars instead of new cars due to their high prices.
– The increasing import has been going on for thirteen months now and is breaking records, influencing the reduction of the median price – explains Paweł Molasy. – These cars often have a history in terms of accidents, they have undergone major repairs, so it is even more worth using the services of car inspection companies or car dealers who provide a guarantee regarding the technical condition and origin of the car.
The good news, however, is the continuing trend of decreasing median mileage and age of cars on offer.
The median price of used cars in July 2024 is PLN 31,400, median mileage – 165,000 km, and median age – 10 years.
In July this year, the number of cars offered on the secondary market with petrol engines was only less than 1 percent lower (45 percent) than diesels, which accounted for 45.9 percent of used car offers. The next places were taken by LPG cars – 4.4 percent, hybrids – 3.5 percent, electric cars – 1 percent and others.
