WADA clearly about the Iga Świątek case. This may be a huge blow for the Polish woman

The Grand Slam Australian Open is underway. One of the favorites in the tournament is Iga Świątek. Does WADA remind you of its existence during the competition in Melbourne?
Let us remind you that the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) is looking at what happened in the second half of 2024 in the context of Iga Świątek. The case, which was resolved by the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA), on the part of the above-mentioned organization, ended with the finding that the prohibited substance found in the Polish woman’s body appeared there due to contamination of the drug, specifically melatonin.
Świątek uses it regularly, e.g. for sleep problems. Contamination on the part of the manufacturer is therefore mainly the fault of the manufacturer, and not of the tennis player herself.
WADA has the last days to act on the situation with Iga Świątek
Paradoxically, the ITIA investigation did not end the case. It is still being investigated by WADA. When will the Polish woman finally be able to breathe?
– Yes, I confirm that we have until January 21 to take further steps, said James Fitzgerald, WADA spokesman for WP/SportoweFakty.
It is worth adding that the runner-up in the WTA ranking has already served a one-month suspension imposed by the ITIA. In the case of the Polish woman, there may be an appeal, although if it were to actually take place by January 21, then that date falls on… the second week of the Australian Open.
It seems that Świątek has nothing to fear, although a negative scenario and WADA intervention would certainly not be something that would have any positive impact on Świątek’s sporting ambitions in Melbourne.
At the end of December 2024, POLADA, the Polish Anti-Doping Agency, decided not to appeal against the decision made by ITIA regarding Świątek.
