Venice Admission: Everything You Wanted to Know About the Tourist Fee

Dreaming of a trip to Venice but put off by the tourist entrance fee? Here’s everything you need to know.

Low-cost airlines regularly tempt with tickets to Venice. One of the cities most experienced by overtourism constantly attracts with its splendor, and carriers offer connections to it at attractive prices, even during carnival.

Every tourist has probably heard of the Venice entry fee, but what is it like in practice? How much is it and how is it collected?

Venice entry fee. On these days it is valid

Let’s imagine that we bought a ticket to Venice for the end of this summer, autumn or winter. We go to the Venice Access Fee website (cda.ve.it/en/) and see a message in English: “The application period for entrance fees for 2024 has ended”. “Does this mean that I bought plane tickets to Venice for this year and I won’t get in?” – you might think with fear.

NO.

The fee is 5 euros (a little over 20 PLN). In the test phase in 2024, it was collected on specific days during the year. These were: April 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 2024, May 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 11, 12, 18, 19, 25, 26, 2024, June 8, 9, 15, 16, 22, 23, 29, 30, 2024 and July 6, 7, 13 and 14, 2024. Currently, it is not yet possible to purchase admission for 2025.

Where do you pay to enter the city?

The entrance fee is not charged between 4:00 PM and 8:30 AM. There are also groups exempt from the fee, but this does not apply to tourists in most cases. For the visit (in this case next year) we pay on the website cda.ve.it/en/ or at tobacco kiosks in Italy (tabaccheria), while fees apply.

In 2024, people who had a confirmed reservation for accommodation in the city did not have to pay the fee. However, they still had to register on the website and receive a QR code (proof of exemption) in case they were stopped for inspection.

It is also worth checking exactly where the fee applies on the website. In short, it is charged in the area 1 – historical part of St. Mark’s Square. It is not collected, among others, from people passing through the communication points – Piazzale Roma, Tronchetto or through the Stazione Marittima ferry terminal.

How will the fees look like in 2025? In practice, we will probably find out closer to the new year. As reported by the website visit-venice-italy.com, the Venice City Council is leaning towards differentiating rates for tourists. Starting next year, a lower basic rate of 3 euros will apply to those who book in advance. On the busiest days the fee is set to rise to €10.
