Unique harvests by the sea. “Gold of the Baltic Sea as the main course”
Amber appears at the Polish seaside every year. Some people, even though they dream about them very much, are not lucky enough to find them on the shore, others end up in real trouble. The photos published online are impressive.
To find amber in the Baltic Sea, you need to remember, among others: about choosing a good location. For years, Jantar has been considered one of the special places in this respect. Despite this, the entire area of the Vistula Spit is explored by collectors. Some people showed off their latest achievements on the Facebook group “Na Mierzeja”.
Record harvest of amber by the sea
A spring trip to Polish beaches turned out to be extremely fruitful. “The gold of the Baltic Sea is like the main course” – we read under one of the online posts. The photos show bowls filled with golden amber of various sizes and shapes. The shared photos come from, among others: from Mrs. Ola Kaczmarczyk from the “Amber Coast” group.
Some of the catches were mixed with small sticks and pebbles, but it was clear that in the end there was a lot of “sea gold” in them.
Hundreds of reactions appeared under the photos. The comments highlighted, among others: to the magic of nature “Beautiful amber, so many golden Baltic colors in them”, “It makes my heart happy” – we read. There were also those who focused mainly on the bad side of the find, i.e. the small size of the raw material.
Amber attracts tourists
Amber attracts tourists to beaches almost at any time of the year. What matters most is that the sea is not icy as in January and covered with snow. The greatest chance of finding outstanding specimens will be right after a storm – that’s when the waves wash up on the shore with real treasures, and those who go hunting early in the morning are lucky to catch them.
Photos published on social media show that amber has often been found on the Vistula Spit in recent weeks. Interestingly, March is considered one of the stormiest months in the Baltic Sea, so many people take this as a good indication.
It is worth remembering that this raw material is not only beautiful but is also suitable for, among others: for creating jewelry, it also has healing properties and can bring us profits. We once estimated that if we found a rare specimen, we could get up to 10,000. zlotys. In 2024 and 2025, one kilogram of raw Baltic amber could cost from PLN 100 to even PLN 100,000.
