Unexpected motion in the Sejm. Deputies started clapping and singing
The Sejm is holding its last session today before the summer break. In connection with the start of the Olympic Games in Paris, Poland 2050 – Third Way MP Tomasz Zimoch submitted an unexpected motion that caused extraordinary euphoria among MPs from left to right.
On Friday, July 26, the Sejm members met for the last session before the August parliamentary recess. At the same time, the Olympic Games in Paris officially begin on that day. And this topic was not absent during the session.
Unexpected motion in the Sejm. It concerns the Olympic Games in Paris
Just before the important votes, Tomasz Zimoch, MP of Poland 2050 – Third Way, took to the podium with a formal motion, recalling that 100 years ago, Polish Olympians won the first medal at the Games, which is why last year the Sejm declared 2024 the year of Polish Olympians.
– After a hundred years, we once again turn our gaze to Paris, because today the 33rd Summer Olympic Games begin. I request that the next 16 days be free from politics. May these be days of Olympic joy. Let us have fun with sports – he said from the parliamentary rostrum. – And from the Polish Sejm, wishes for our team: good luck, ladies and gentlemen – he added.
Sejm Marshal Szymon Hołownia joked, asking the deputies if they accept this motion by acclamation. “I guess we can try,” he said, and the laws answered him.
“It’s true what may be happening today at the Poselski Hotel”
Later, KO MP Małgorzata Niemczyk came to the podium with a formal motion, also raising the subject of the Olympic Games.
– On my own behalf, on behalf of the entire parliament and the Minister of Sport Sławomir Nitras, dear athletes, we would like to wish you life records, successful starts and, above all, as few injuries as possible. To the entire team, but also to the fans, we wish you as much joy as possible from medals, but also pride and satisfaction. For the Polish flag to be raised in Paris as often as possible and for the Dąbrowski Mazurka to resound almost every day. Faster, stronger, higher. We keep our fingers crossed for you. Good luck! – she concluded.
After a while, all the MPs, regardless of party colours, stood up from their seats, started clapping, and some of them started singing “Poland, White and Red”.
– So it’s true what the Marshal’s Guard said about what might happen today at the Poselski Hotel. Yesterday was supposedly a prelude – joked Marshal Hołownia at the end of the applause.
