Tychy, complex and collage city

-One of the scenes of the film was spread over 544 frames, and then hand-cut, outlined and complemented-Agnieszka Seidel-Kożuch, a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts and an animator, who was invited to this project, tells Agnieszka Seidel-Kożuch about the unusual promotional film of the city of Tychy. “Tychy from A to Z” is a collage about the diversity of the Silesian city.
The goal of the film promoting Tychy was to show a city connecting tradition with modernity. Therefore, key tourist attractions, places of culture and modern infrastructure were presented. The originators, they wanted to create a film showing a city in which there is a lot of potential and which is able to offer a lot to both residents and visiting guests.
Agnieszka Seidel-Kożuch, Tyszanka, a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice in the field of graphic design and Hole Films Creative Film Agency were invited to work on the project.
Showing the urban concept of famous architects
The film is a collage depicting in a dynamically diversity of the city, which is co -created by people, places, institutions and events. Title Tychy from A to Zit is not just a game of words, but refers to the urban concept of the famous Polish architects Hanna and Kazimierz Wejchertów, whose image appears in the first team of the film. Whoever lives in Tychy, or at least a bit associates the history of the creation of the city, he knows that the city, or rather its new part, has been designed on drawing boards, and the names of individual housing estates are the next letters of the alphabet, which is also a shortcut of female names.
In the heads of the then urban planners and architects, Tychy appeared not only modern, but also comfortable to live. Artists-artists, outstanding architects, mosaic specialists and sculptors were often invited to create a city. Each housing estate was to be self -sufficient, with its market and square, library or other place with a cultural and educational offer.
In this way, the city is arranged to this day, and its unique character is what distinguishes them and is a reason for pride for people living here.
All important characteristic points have been included
This uniqueness, specific socialist-and-modern beauty, natural, green, was one of the starting points when working on the script. The next were, of course, the residents themselves, their beloved places, passions and activities.
The creators wanted everything important and characteristic of the city to find their place in the film – so the authors of the concept of the city of Nowe Tychy – Hanna and Kazimierz Wejchertów, fragments of the os. And, the Church of the Holy Spirit with polychromes of prof. Jerzy Nowosielski, Sculptures of Augustine Dyrda, award-winning marina at Lake Paprocany, Żagiel from the port of work songs, musical evenings on the lake, Passage of Andromeda Culture, Auxo-chamber orchestra of the city of Tychy, Mosaics of Franciszek Wyleżuch and the murals of the Czary-Mury duo, Bluesman Ryśka Riedel monument.
What are the letters of the alphabet for Tychy
The film begins and ends with the panorama of the city – in the first cage a wide shot at Tyskie housing estates, along with a collage showing the marriage of Wejchertów, while the last shot presents characteristic buildings with towers at Plac Baczyński.
We continue the journey to the estate AND Like Anna – a socialist realist mining estate unique in the country, then we visit, among others, Tyskie BRowary Książęce or Church DHoly ear with polychromes prof. Jerzy Nowosielski.
Among the next business cards of the city are: Augustine DYrda – sculptor, Marek MAxis – conductor, artistic director of AUKSO – Chamber Orchestra of the City of Tychy and Ryszard Riedel – vocalist, leader of the band Dżem.
The camera leads the eye of the viewer through the streets, parks, forests and Lake Paprocany, looks at the training of professional athletes, looks at musicians during the rehearsal, films his favorite sports activities and entertainment of residents.
– Tyszans love their city and identify with it. Therefore, the film shows both the beauty of the city – its landscape, characteristic points, greenery, parks, forest, recreation places, but also places important for football and hockey fans, or business cards of Tychy industry – a brewery and a special economic zone with the largest production plants. The film met with a very positive reception of the inhabitants, which they expressed in numerous comments on social media – says Maciej Grammar, the president of Tychy.
This lively urban collage is complemented by the animations of the Tychy artist Agnieszka Seidel-Kożuch, which present the details characteristic of Tychy, and thus enrich subsequent shots. This type of solution, and thus the combination of filmmakers’ work with the work of the artist-graphics, was quite risky and innovative, and work on the material was a challenge for the creators, but observing the reactions of the recipients, it can be considered that he managed to succeed.
The process of creating collages
– I have been creating graphic design and photography for years, but it is the digital collage that has become my favorite form of expression. This is not only a technique – it is a way of looking at the world in which the details connect into a harmonious whole. In my work I use my own photographs, which I transform with extraordinary meticulousness and attention to every detail. The city of Tychy saw the potential in my collages, but also in my person – not only the native Tyszanka, but the artist deeply rooted in local culture. This is where the idea of creating a visual tribute to Tychy came from. Transferring my vision of “lively” collages to a moving image in the film was a challenge. Each photo had to undergo meticulous processing: color, graphic and composition. Some shots required incredible precision – like the scene on Baczyński Square, which spread over 544 frames, was manually cut, outlined and supplemented with additional elements -recalls Agnieszka Seidel-Kożuch.
From Hyperlapse to energetic music
The creators’ intention was also to show the dynamics of the city, hence the image is intertwined with advanced film techniques. Operating modern film equipment, Hyperlapse technology and high resolution cameras, drone shots that show spectacular views of the city panorama, as well as dynamic editing and smooth transitions between the scenes give the film an energetic rhythm, reflecting the pulsating character of the city.
– Our goal was to capture the unique character of Tychy in an original way, showing both historical roots and the dynamic, cultural development of the city – says Bartek Bala, Co-Founder and Creative Producer Hole Films.
– The film is a combination of modern implementation techniques, including the use of specialized film equipment, which allows you to create shots in the style of POV – from the hero’s perspective. We used advanced stabilizers, including a film, sports helmet, which allowed to capture dynamic, smooth camera movements. Most of the shots have also been meticulously planned in our band Hole Films, at the stage of pre -production for the film, so that it is possible to combine them in assembly with animated collages, made by the Tychy artist. In my opinion, the city of Tychy is full of visually inspiring places, which definitely facilitated the task of capturing the beauty of the city with the eye of the camera – adds Łukasz Dambiec, a photo author and film editor, from the Hole Films of the Creative Film Agency.
Particularly noteworthy is the energy, created for the needs of the film music and soundtrack, whose composer Grzegorz Jurczyk gave the urban sound filled with sound effects, which not only complements the image, but also harmonizes with it, intensifying the impression of the dynamics and modernity of the city.
The film is part of the city’s new visual identification
The premiere of the film took place at the Tychy Gala of Culture – 21/03/2024 – while awarding the awards of the Mayor of Tychy in the field of culture. The film is one of the elements of building the identity and identification of residents with the city and is part of the city’s new visual identification, created since 2021.
