Two passenger trains collided in Białośliwie in Greater Poland. According to preliminary findings, the cause could have been the driver’s error.
A serious railway accident occurred on Thursday, June 25, in the town of Białośliwie in Piła County in Greater Poland. Two passenger trains collided near the railway station: a Polregio train running on the Piła-Bydgoszcz route and a PKP Intercity train on the Białogard-Warsaw route.

Information about the incident was received by the services after 18. Numerous fire brigade units, medical rescue teams and police were dispatched to the site. The rescue operation continued for several hours after the accident.
— All approximately 200 passengers were taken care of. Three patients were transported to the hospital in Piła. The rest were treated on the spot, noted Jarosław Maciejewski, deputy voivode of Greater Poland.
Details of the incident were presented by PKP Intercity spokesman Michał Wrzosek. – Approximately 18:02 two trains collided. One is Polregio and the other is PKP Intercity. As a result of the collision, the last wagon of the PKP Intercity train and part of the electric multiple unit of the Polregio train derailed – he said in an interview with TVN24.

According to preliminary findings, the accident may have been the result of human error. – It is known that the error was made by the driver of the regional train, who missed the semaphore indicating “Stop” and hit the side of the Intercity train at low speed. These are preliminary arrangements for now. This is preliminary information, but very probable – emphasized Deputy Minister of Infrastructure Piotr Malepszak.
As a result of the collision, both trains partially derailed. – The Intercity wagon tilted and the first section of the regional train was derailed – said Piotr Malepszak.
Passengers must expect difficulties because train traffic on the Piła-Bydgoszcz line has been suspended. As the carrier’s representative added, replacement transport has been launched for passengers. – The causes of the incident are currently being investigated. Currently, the passage on these two tracks is closed, noted Michał Wrzosek.
