Tusk’s mysterious meeting and cost cutting in the National Health Fund. PiS wants explanations

Donald Tusk

On Thursday, March 19, PiS spokesman Rafał Bochenek announced a parliamentary interpellation addressed to Donald Tusk. He wants explanations regarding the meetings between the Prime Minister and the management of the National Health Fund.

Gazeta Wyborcza wrote about the March meeting of Prime Minister Donald Tusk with the president of the National Health Fund Filip Nowak, vice-president of the National Health Fund Jakub Szulc and Minister of Health Jolanta Sobierańska-Grenda. Journalists then learned from the ministry that meetings with the Prime Minister and the president of the National Health Fund are a “permanent element of the work of the Minister of Health” and that “current issues regarding the functioning of the health care system” are discussed.

Mysterious meeting between Tusk and the head of the National Health Fund. PiS wants to know the details

“GW” added that after the last such meeting, the National Health Fund wants to radically reduce the number of gastroscopy, colonoscopy, computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging tests, and soon also specialist consultations. On Thursday, March 19, Rafał Bochenek, spokesman for Law and Justice, commented on this information.

As the politician said, this meeting raises many doubts for him. He recalled that on March 10, a draft ordinance of the President of the National Health Fund was issued, amending the ordinance regarding determining the conditions for concluding and implementing contracts for outpatient specialist care. It showed that the National Health Fund intends to pay 40%, not 100%, for services provided under such care, provided beyond the contract.

Bochenek: Tusk seeks to privatize the health service

Bochenek accused Tusk’s government of “quietly” seeking to privatize the health service by limiting various treatments and services. In this way, the National Health Fund would “push citizens to private facilities.” He announced then that his party’s politicians would ask the Prime Minister for an interpellation on this matter, asking him for more information about the meeting with the management of the National Health Fund.

Data from the National Health Fund show that the value of services in outpatient specialist care increased by 117% from 2021 to 2025, when the number of services increased only slightly above 20%. During the same period, the value of all health care services increased by 55%. Changing the settlement of cost-intensive tests in 2026 would bring about PLN 800 million in savings.
