Tusk’s key promise will not be implemented for now. The Finance Minister revealed the reason
Everything indicates that there will be no increase in the tax-free amount for now. The Minister of Finance revealed why.
A big event of the previous week was a press conference during which Prime Minister Donald Tusk and the Minister of Finance and Economy Andrzej Domański announced changes in taxes that would take place next year, i.e. in the election year. During the conference, journalists also touched on the key promise of the current team during the last election campaign. Of course, we are talking about an increase in the tax-free amount from the current PLN 30,000 to PLN 60,000. zloty. The Prime Minister admitted that due to the costs, it will not be possible to implement this request for now.
Minister of Finance on the lack of an increase in the tax-free amount
This topic also appeared in today’s “Radio TOK FM Morning”, whose guest was the Minister of Finance and Economy. Andrzej Domański emphasized that during the 2023 campaign “we were operating in a very specific budget environment.” Defense spending then amounted to PLN 110 billion. The current team decided to increase them.
– For our government, security was, is and will be the highest priority and these expenses have been increased to PLN 200 billion, i.e. we are talking about a difference of approximately PLN 90 billion. This difference would be enough to finance tax changes, including: free amount, but our government’s priority is safety – explained the head of the Ministry of Finance and Economy.
The host of the program, Dominika Wielowiejska, emphasized that only a narrow group of taxpayers would benefit from the proposal presented last week.
– 3.5 million people will benefit from this proposal, and here we are talking about the middle class, people who do not have huge incomes at all, and who are currently the only group whose effectively paid taxes are increasing year after year. Well, if the thresholds remain unchanged, more and more people fall into the higher one, 32%. threshold (about half a million per year), it is this group, the middle class, that actually pays, maintains this increase in spending and we want, and this is what we have presented in this project, to balance the tax system so that it is no longer based so strongly only on this one group – Domański explained.
Let us recall that the government’s proposal assumes that 12 percent the PIT rate will apply up to PLN 130,000. PLN, and not up to PLN 120,000 as before. zloty. In turn, people earning from PLN 130,000 to PLN 150,000 PLN, a new rate of 24% will apply. The highest, 32 percent. the rate will be paid by those earning over PLN 150,000. PLN per year.
