Trzaskowski shows no mercy for Piesiewicz. Giant money in the background

In the second half of August 2024 Sławomir Nitras submitted a request to Rafał Trzaskowski to control the activities of the Polish Olympic Committee. The Mayor of Warsaw was supposed to take care of it because, according to the applicable provisions of the Law on Associations, he is the supervisory body.

The Minister of Sport explained that during one of the meetings of the POC authorities, information appeared that Radosław Piesiewicz and several other members of the POC presidium received remuneration and awards, although there was no relevant resolution on this matter.

Did the POC authorities break the law?

During the proceedings it was established that the actions of the POC authorities in the scope of financial management of the committee were carried out in violation of the law – both the Act on Associations and the statute of the Polish Olympic Committee. The most serious accusation concerns the failure to establish the financial policy of PKOI by the general meeting.

The deputy spokeswoman for the capital city hall said that Rafał Trzaskowski, as the supervisory authority, called for all irregularities to be removed within 3 months. Marzena Gawkowska added that in the absence of appropriate action by the Polish Olympic Committee, the mayor of Warsaw may take further steps. A KO politician has the right, among others, to: apply to the registry court to issue a warning to the association’s authorities and to repeal a resolution of the association that is inconsistent with the law or the statute.

A statement from the capital city hall shows that “the politician of the Civic Coalition also gave a warning to the POC authorities regarding the terms of employment of the president and members of the POC management board, which were allegedly made in violation of the law.”

Marzena Gawkowska explained that “This type of warning is a signal to the Polish Olympic Committee that if there is no response to the request to remove the violation, the supervisory authority may take further supervisory actions.“.

Irregularities in the Polish Olympic Committee

Rafał Trzaskowski’s decision means further problems for the Polish Olympic Committee. There have already been financial uncertainties related to, among others: with the employment of Radosław Piesiewicz, who, unlike his predecessors, does not serve as president on a voluntary basis. The Polish Olympic Committee’s expenses were also scrutinized by the Supreme Audit Office and the National Tax Administration.
