Donald Trump announced that he was “liberating Cuba.” Strong words were spoken about the regime, the CIA and the loss of control over the island.
US President Donald Trump declared that the United States was “liberating Cuba.” The statement was made after returning from Connecticut, when he spoke to journalists at the Andrews base.

Donald Trump: “Cuba is falling apart”
When asked about the possibility of escalating actions against Cuba, Trump replied that he did not think it would be necessary. He assessed that the country was in a very difficult situation.
The US president said that Cuba was “falling apart”, called the situation on the island “a mess” and said that the authorities had in practice lost control over the country.
Raul Castro faces charges in the USA
Trump also commented on Wednesday’s indictment against Raul Castro. Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche announced charges against Fidel Castro’s 94-year-old brother in Miami.
The case concerns the events of February 1996, when Cuban fighters shot down two planes of the Brothers to the Rescue organization. Four people associated with an organization of Cuban emigrants from Miami died in the disaster over international waters.
Trump did not respond regarding Castro’s capture
The US president refused to answer the question whether Raul Castro might share the fate of former Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro and be captured by US forces.
However, Trump noted that the administration “has Cuba in mind.” He also emphasized the importance of the case for Cuban emigrants living in the United States.
Charges against Cuban military personnel
In addition to Raul Castro, five Cuban military pilots were also charged. The charges include conspiracy to murder US citizens, murder and destruction of an aircraft.
The announcement of the indictment took place in front of the Freedom Tower in Miami, considered a symbol of Cuban emigration. The event also coincided with the celebration of Cuba’s Independence Day on May 20.
