Trefl Gdańsk is extremely unlucky. Third consecutive tie-break defeat
In the match of the 3rd round of PlusLiga, recognized brands faced each other – PGE GiEK Skra Bełchatów and Trefl Gdańsk. Both teams aspire to play in the play-offs. Who won?
Before the start of this season, the team will be taken over by Gheorghe Cretu, whose task is to restore Skra’s former glory. His team had a very successful start to the season, losing only one set in two matches. Trefl’s players, who are still waiting for their premiere victory, approached this match in a different mood. Both meetings with Stilon Gorzów and Bogdanka LUK Lublin ended with losses in tie-breaks.
Strong opening by Trefl Gdańsk and equalization
This match was very tight and even from the beginning, which was reflected in the score 9:9. Trefl gained two points (10:12) mainly thanks to Jakub Jarosz, who first attacked successfully and then sent a bomb from the serve, after which the Bełchatów team had problems. Although Skra equalized 14:14, the Gdańsk team managed to get two points back. The end of this set was very tight and ultimately ended with the score 27:25 for Trefl.
In the second game, the Bełchatów team started to make up for the losses. Gheorghe Cretu’s players gained three points (7:4), but the Gdańsk team quickly equalized the score. This did not discourage the hosts, who in the second part of the set were +3 again (19:16) and were closer to equalizing the set. At the end, Trefl was unable to break the block and defense of Skra, which resulted in a defeat by 22.
The winner was decided by a tie-break
Skra was unable to maintain the level from the first set, as Trefl proved at the beginning of the third set, taking a 4-0 lead. The Bełchatów team chased the result and even made contact (8:7), but the guests did not lose the lead and triumphed 25:18.
In the next set, the Bełchatów team got motivated and took the second set away from Trefl Gdańsk (25:21), leading to a tie-break. They turned out to be better in the decisive game
