A trip “around the world” in the Czech Republic

The commotion takes place around the Svět fish pond (this Czech name means in Polish: world). It turns out that the Czechs have created an educational path “Around the World” there and they are proud of such a tourist point. It is not as big a hit as the great spa triangle or national parks, but its name makes it seem intriguing.

Svět Pond is located on the southern outskirts of the town of Trzeboń in the Jindřichův Hradec district. It’s actually closer to Austria or Germany than to Poland, but it’s still worth visiting at the next opportunity. The water reservoir covers an area of 201 ha and is the famous work of fisherman Jakub Krčín from Jelčany. The man was a prominent Czech builder who, during his career, created numerous ponds in southern Bohemia.

Thanks to him, tourists got a chance to take an unusual trip around the world. This one takes less than 3 hours because there are only 12 km to cover. Attractions and beautiful views await visitors.

Svět Pond and attractions in the area

From one end of the pond dam, it is easy to visit the above-mentioned Trzeboń, which is a spa town. The hit there is, among others: Aqua viva wellness center in Aurora Baths. If we stop at the other end, we will be close to the neo-Gothic tomb of the Czech-Austrian aristocratic Schwarzenberk family – an influential family originating from Franconia.

That’s not all, while walking around Svět you can learn something about the surrounding nature. There are as many as 16 information boards on the paths, which allow you to learn about the fauna and flora of South Bohemia, the history of local fish farming and the surrounding spa activities. In addition, there are two sandy beaches on the pond (Pláž and Ostende).

From Poland on a journey “around the world”

Do you like the idea of a short trip “around the world”? You can implement it in several ways, including: on foot or by bike. Of course, you will first need to get to the Czech Republic – e.g. by train. A good solution may be to get off at the Ceske Budejovice station. The easiest way to get to this city is, among others: from Prague. The Trzeboń railway station is not open, although it is easiest to walk to the pond from this town. From České Budějovice it takes approximately 30 minutes to reach your destination.

The journey around the Czech pond will provide many beautiful views. It’s true that it won’t be like at the ocean, in the Alps or in the Norwegian fjords, but it will be quiet and definitely cheaper. Along the way, it is easy to find several resting places with tables, benches and fireplaces, so the expedition can even take on a slightly survival character. Would you agree that this is a clever way to complete a unique challenge?
