Trains will run longer. Passengers on a popular route injured

The routes of selected long-distance PKP Intercity trains have changed at the end of August. From Sunday, trains running from Wrocław through Ostrów Wielkopolski and Łódź to Warsaw must stop at an additional stop in Oleśnica, which significantly lengthens the journey. According to Rynek Kolejowy, not only passengers going to the capital are affected, but also travelers going further to the north-east of the country, for example to Białystok.

Longer travel time for PKP Intercity to Warsaw

On Saturday, August 30, the renovation of the traction network on line No. 766 Łukanów – Dąbrowa Oleśnicka began. For passengers, this primarily means a longer journey from Wrocław to Warsaw. “The travel time of trains will be extended by approximately 15-25 minutes depending on the type of rolling stock and the traffic situation at a given time of the day,” says Marta Ziemska from the PKP Intercity Press Office in an interview with Rynek Kolejowy.

The problem concerns trains that travel to the capital via Ostrów Wielkopolski and Łódź. Now, instead of line no. 766, they will be directed to lines no. 143 and 281, i.e. through Oleśnica. There will be a change in the train’s running head there. In addition to the main station, trains in the small Lower Silesian city will also stop at the Oleśnica Rataje station. “The stop in Oleśnica will be shorter if a given journey is carried out by an electric multiple unit, and longer in the case of wagon trains,” we read.

How long will the disruptions last?

The interruption in train traffic on line No. 766 is expected to last several weeks. The re-launch of the journey is planned after November 16, 2026. However, the carrier assured that the difficulties related to the renovation will only affect the journey time, and not the number of daily journeys. Passengers whose trains will not be routed through Łódź will also avoid a longer journey.
