Trains will not reach the mountain resort. It will only get better in late autumn
The ability to travel to a popular resort by train offers great freedom and time saving for travelers. However, here the difficulties returned.
After the holiday season ends, traveling will become more difficult in some places. Changes were announced in Szklarska Poręba, where alternative bus transport is returning instead of trains. This is the result of the resumption of renovation works on the railway infrastructure. However, there is hope for a better situation this year.
There are no trains in Szklarska Poręba
The problems concern precisely the Podgórze line from Jelenia Góra to Szklarska Poręba, where trains will not run until the end of October. The situation applies to all carriers, including PKP Intercity, Koleje Dolnośląskie and POLREGIO. Those who choose this place for an autumn trip should pay attention to this information. Szklarska Poręba is one of the most popular resorts in the Karkonosze district, from which you can climb peaks such as Szrenica, Śnieżne Kotły or Łabski Szczyt.
The same inconveniences as now were already faced in the spring of 2026, but from June to August 30, during the period of increased traffic, passengers could count on temporary relief from renovations and resumption of railway connections. Now it is more difficult again, and we will only notice the difference in November.
Travel will be easier in winter
Currently, the second stage of work is underway in Szklarska Poręba. It includes the installation of turnouts in Dębowa Góra, Jelenia Góra-Cieplice and at the Jelenia Góra Zachodnia station. In some places, modern sound traffic lights and additional barriers are installed. In addition, track works at crossings are being completed. In spring, PLK replaced the sleepers and rails. Although travelers now have to use replacement buses, the effects of the work will be positive for them.
From November 2026, train travel there is to be faster and more comfortable. “The works will allow for an increase in train speeds on the demanding foothill route of up to 100 km/h,” assured Marta Pabiańska from the PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe Press Team. It is known that it will also be possible to conduct more courses in the Karkonosze Mountains and the level of safety will increase.
The changes will be appreciated not only by residents, but also by tourists going to Szklarska Poręba for Christmas, New Year’s Eve or winter break.
