Trailer of the fourth part of The Witcher at The Game Awards 2024. Geralt is not in it

The cinematic trailer of The Witcher IV was shown during The Game Awards 2024. CD Projekt Red was not afraid that other announcements and surprises would overshadow the announcement of the next installment of the beloved game. On the contrary, the Polish game was one of the biggest hits of the entire event.

The Witcher IV received the first trailer

In cooperation with Platige Image, the creators from CD Projekt Red gave us 6 minutes of really specific footage. We learn from it that this time the main character will be Geralt’s protégé – Ciri. We also see that we can expect dark, gloomy stories from a harsh world, full of prejudices and superstitions.

Of course, the creators also promise us a dynamic fight against powerful opponents, the use of Witcher potions and a medallion with a chain, known from the first part. In the note under the video we also read the announcement of the open world. This probably means a large game map and numerous locations to visit.

The Witcher 4. Ciri the main character

The trailer was accompanied by an interview by Sebastian Kalemba on the industry portal IGN. The game director announced that CD Projekt Red wants to give players the opportunity to shape the game more – both in terms of the plot (we know this from the previous parts) and the so-called gameplay (here they will benefit from the experience of Cyberpunk 2077).

– I believe that the gameplay in Cyberpunk 2077 was more diverse than in The Witcher 3 and gave more freedom in creating character builds and the ability to experience battles in your own way – noted Kalemba. As he explained, players will have more room for maneuver when performing subsequent tasks than just eliminating all opponents.

He also explained why Ciri was chosen as the main character. As he explained, this was influenced by, among others, her age, allowing her to shape her characters and story more freely. “She is just becoming a witcher,” Kalemba emphasized.

– We talked about who would be next nine years ago. Ciri was the immediate answer. She really deserves her own game, he added.
