Very sad news came from the world of football. Artur Sarnat, a goalkeeper known for his performances, among others, has died. for the champion Wisła Kraków.
Artur Sarnat came from Krakow and it was in this city that he earned great respect due to his football performances. He started in Wawel, had a short stint in Cracovia, but he introduced himself to the general public by defending Wisła Kraków’s goal. In recent years, the former goalkeeper struggled with a serious illness. Unfortunately, on the night of November 16-17, Sarnat died. The tragic news was made public on Sunday morning.
“Artur Sarnat was born on September 20, 1970, and his love for Wisła was passed on to him by his father Ryszard – a great striker of the White Star. And although Artur Sarnat took his first football steps in Wawel Kraków, it was at R22 that he experienced his best moments. He spent almost 10 years here. During this time, he played 257 matches and kept almost 100 clean sheets. With his attitude between the posts, he has repeatedly shown his usefulness to the team, being an important link in the White Star’s defense. With his teammates, he won the title of Polish Champion twice: in 1999 and 2001. Additionally, they won the League Cup, the Polish Cup and the Super Cup. We will undoubtedly also remember matches in the international arena, when access to the Wisła goal in clashes with, among others, With Real Zaragoza, with FC Barcelona or with Inter, Sarnat was guarded by Milan,” we read on the website of Wisła Krakow.
There is no denying that that Krakow team was the dominant player on the domestic market. The only thing missing was a stronger breakthrough in European cups. However, Sarnat was a full member of this legendary team, a sure point for Wisła.
His father, Ryszard Sarnat, was actually also a footballer. Unlike his son, however, he played as a striker. He played for Wisła Kraków in the 1970s. During the period in which he played for Biała Gwiazda, he was one of the leaders of the Krakow team.
Artur Sarnat died at the age of only 54.
