Tragic news from the Tatras. A 28-year-old tourist did not survive the fall.
A tragic event occurred on Orla Perć in the High Tatras. According to TOPR, a 28-year-old tourist died.
The man suffered serious injuries when he fell from a great height, reports the Polish Press Agency, citing the Tatra Volunteer Search and Rescue. The tragedy occurred on Friday.
Rescuers have a lot of work to do. They were called out 27 times in two days
TOPR reported that the incident occurred on Friday. On August 23 and 24, they had their hands full – they intervened as many as 27 times.
“These were most often calls for illness, dehydration and limb injuries. In several cases, tourists simply overestimated their capabilities and got stuck in terrain that was too difficult for them,” indicates the Tatromaniak editorial team, which spoke with Grzegorz Kubicki from TOPR. These people required the help of rescuers.
Tatra Mountains. Body of a wanted Polish citizen found
A few days earlier – on Tuesday – the body of a wanted tourist from Poland was found on the Slovak side of the Tatras. It was a man whose family had last contacted him over a week earlier. After that, he disappeared without a trace.
Members of the Horska záchranna služba (Slovak equivalent of TOPR) located his personal belongings near the top of Lomnicky peak. Then they found his body.
TOPR always appeals to tourists to be careful in such situations. According to rescuers’ data, 18 people died in the Tatras in 2023 (12 people, like the 28-year-old, died as a result of falling from a height).
