Tragic End to Search for Tourist in Tatras: Man Dies

Sad news is coming from the Tatras. After a night search for a missing tourist, it turned out that the man did not survive. He found himself in the mountains during very difficult weather conditions.

On July 16, TOPR rescuers provided sad news about a tragedy involving a tourist. They were looking for a man who had gone on a trip to Rysy. This is a high peak located on the Polish-Slovak border, in the High Tatras. Walking in this area without proper preparation or protection is often risky. The man who found himself on the spot was not very lucky. After a night of searching, his body was found.

Tragedy in the Tatras

The tourist was supposed to go to Rysy on Monday, July 15, but did not return before dusk. At that time, the rescuers received a report and immediately began searching. The missing man was spotted from a helicopter. The services searched for the man all night until he was located in the morning. According to the report of the RMF FM reporter, the accident took place in the area of Bula pod Rysami. After falling from a great height, the body was found in Dziewiczy Żleb.

Rescuers are expected to provide detailed information on the course of the operation soon. They will also provide information on the possible causes of the fatal accident.

After the information appeared on the thematic website tatromaniak.pl, among others, Internet users immediately began to comment on the matter. Many pointed out that tourists were walking in dangerous areas, although there was a high risk of such an accident occurring. “I don’t understand why people go on such trips, where you can fall,” wrote one of the women. However, opposing voices quickly appeared, pointing out that mountains have their own attractive power and accidents can happen anywhere. “I’ve been there a dozen or so times. It’s hard to say unequivocally why and why people take such risks. However, I know that I will go there many more times,” wrote one of the men.

Rescuers warn

The Tatra Volunteer Search and Rescue Service (TAPR) rescuers note that difficult weather conditions in the mountains are ahead of us. They appeal to tourists to be careful and check current reports. Ignoring alerts or going out on the trail without preparation may increase the risk of tragedy. Storms can be expected in the Tatras in the coming days. “Be careful and observe changing weather conditions” – we read in a message on the tatromaniak.pl website. “During a storm, it is particularly dangerous to be on ridges, on trails equipped with artificial facilities (chains, clamps, etc.) and in the vicinity of watercourses” – we read further in the warning message published on the Tatra National Park website.
