Tragedy in one of Norway’s most popular destinations. A Polish tourist has died.
A 27-year-old Pole fell into the sea off the coast of Brufjellhalene. This is a popular tourist destination in Norway. Everything indicates that it was an unfortunate accident.
A 27-year-old Pole was found dead in the sea off the coast of Brufjellhalene on Sunday, August 11, the nrk.no portal reported. The picturesque hole overlooking the North Sea is a popular tourist destination. Up to 40,000 tourists visit the place every year. The man was part of a nine-person tour. The 27-year-old permanently lived and worked in the Norwegian county of Rogaland. The Pole’s relatives were notified of the tragedy.
A life preserver was thrown to the man, but he was unable to swim to shore. Local residents were involved in the rescue operation, avisenagder.no reported. Many people participated in the search in their own boats. The police investigation so far has shown that it was nothing more than an accident. There is no suspicion of a crime. The mayor of Flekkefjord, Torbjorn Klungland, expressed his condolences.
Brufjellhalene. Another death in a popular tourist spot in Norway
After another fatal accident, the local authorities will assess whether there is a need to react. In March this year, a Polish couple fell into the sea. One person was found, but died on the way to hospital. The body of the other person was not found. The entire route is just over five kilometres long, and the incline is 578 metres.
For safety reasons, the local tourism association stopped promoting the site a few years ago, but photos from Brufjellhalene are still popular on social media. Brufjell is a cave and a platform at the end of a hiking trail, 10 meters above sea level, created by the waves. It is one of the official tourist attractions of Magma Geopark, which is in turn a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
