Tragedy in Crete. An 11-year-old Polish girl died on vacation
An 11-year-old girl from Poland was dragged unconscious from a hotel swimming pool in Crete. Despite long resuscitation, she died in hospital.
The tragedy occurred on Sunday, August 30, in a hotel in Platanias near Chania. The girl was on vacation in Crete with her parents.
According to Greek public broadcaster ERT, the 11-year-old was found in the hotel swimming pool and pulled out of the water without any signs of consciousness. Emergency services were immediately called to the scene.
Rescuers fought for the life of an 11-year-old Polish girl
Three doctors from a private medical center cooperating with the facility, a nurse and paramedics from the Greek ambulance service EKAB came to the hotel. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation was started immediately.
Resuscitation was also continued in the ambulance on its way to the hospital in Chania. A police car drove in front of the ambulance and cleared the way for the child to get to the emergency room as quickly as possible.
In the hospital, doctors were still trying to restore the girl’s vital functions. Despite repeated attempts, the 11-year-old Polish girl could not be saved.
The circumstances of the tragedy remain unexplained. It is not known how the girl got underwater or how long she stayed in the pool before being found. The matter is being investigated by the Greek services.
Greek public media also report that the girl was supposed to be the only child in the family.
