Tragedy at the airport. A 61-year-old man died while working

A nightmare situation took place at one of the European airports. A ground crew member of the facility died while towing the plane. Everyone was shocked.

The tragedy occurred on Saturday, November 2, in the port of Helsinki-Vantaa in Finland. The 61-year-old experienced airport worker did his job early in the morning and everything went smoothly. It turned out that the man had terrible luck that day. When he found himself between the fuselage of the plane and the aircraft toilet emptying vehicle, he was unable to get out and was completely crushed.

Death of an airport employee

Information about the incident was provided by the airline Finnair. It said the accident involved a wide-body plane that arrived from Tokyo at around 4:21 a.m. after a long overnight journey. The machine was transferred to the service hall to perform standard maintenance activities. There was no indication that such a nightmare was about to happen.

The man working in the airport ground service had been doing his job for years and was also active in the volunteer fire brigade and in the local rescue service team. It is difficult to say that he made a mistake, although it cannot be ruled out that the incident occurred due to failure to exercise appropriate caution.

The situation will be investigated

The police are currently checking whether an employee’s death was unintentionally caused at the airport. It is known that before the accident occurred, all passengers got out. Ground workers were busy preparing the plane for its next flight, and the tow crew began pushing the plane away from the gate so it could be parked in a remote location. Unfortunately, when they started pushing the plane out of the gate, no one realized that the truck with the toilet trash was still parked under the plane and that the operator was still actively working in that area.

The police received a report about the accident around 5:14 a.m. Spokesman for an independent ground handling company that employed, among others, the injured 61-year-old, said that the company would organize special meetings with employees to discuss the accident.

This is, of course, not the first similar situation that has occurred at the airport. In the first half of this year, a man died near a plane in the port of Amsterdam. It was supposed to be sucked in by the working turbofan engine.
