Trade ban on Sunday. After the election, change of regulations?

The amendment to the Act on trade restrictions on Sunday is still in a legislative progress. Will the result of Sunday presidential elections affect its further fate?
The amendment to the act on Sunday trade limitation initially aroused great emotions, but over time social interest clearly weakened. The amendment got stuck in the legislative process. Can Sunday presidential elections change this?
Trade in Sunday – current status
The issue of trade on Sunday was regulated by the Act of 10 January 2018 on restriction of trade on Sundays and holidays, and on some other days, which began to apply on March 1, 2018. The Act of 6 December 2024 amending the Act on Free Days and some other acts introduces an additional commercial Sunday in December. Therefore, in 2025, trade is in force on eight Sundays. This, however, may change, because the draft of changes in trade restrictions on Sunday, which was prepared by Polish MPs 2050 Szymon Hołownia, which was received by the Sejm on March 21, 2024, was considered by the Sejm Commission for Economy and Development and the Social Policy and Family Committee and currently waiting for the third reading in the Economy and Development Committee.
Trade on Sundays and the presidential race
Meanwhile, a slightly embodied project was recalled in the context of Sunday presidential elections. The INFOR.pl website cites the opinion of the National Council of the NSZZ “Solidarność” trade workers section, which indicated that the further fate of the project may be influenced by the result of the presidential election in 2025.
However, according to the website, the statement – “Currently in the Sejm, a law is being processed by introducing additional two Sundays working in a month. The future president may veto this law, we are convinced that Rafał Trzaskowski will not do it” – he is not confirmed by the candidate Rafał Trzaskowski’s election program, who did not declare in it as a supporter of restriction of trade ban in Sunday.
As the portal indicates, the further fate of the project assuming, among others Twice higher remuneration for work on Sunday and the opportunity to work on preferred days (e.g. for students), “depend primarily on the course of work on the project in the Sejm, and then in the Senate, before he finally hits the desk of the future president, whose opinion on the project (if it was Rafał Trzaskowski) is not a foregone conclusion,” reads.
The website also points out that the Act will finally go to the desk of the future president, whose decision in this matter will be crucial. “Opinion about the project – if Rafał Trzaskowski became the head of state – is not a foregone conclusion,” notes infor.pl
