Tourists won’t get to Zakopane? “We are forced to take to the streets”
On this day, tourists must prepare for difficulties. Protesters will block the road between Krakow and Zakopane.
This will not be a successful weekend for drivers heading for their dream vacation in the Tatra Mountains. At a pedestrian crossing in the town of Gaj on the route from Krakow to Zakopane, members of the Zielona Gmina Mogilany Association planned to block the road. Reason? Construction of the Kraków-Myślenice railway line, which would run through the area of the Małopolska commune, right next to the residents’ houses. The protest at Zakopane is planned on December 14 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Zakopianka will be impassable
Everyone who was planning a weekend trip to Zakopane should prepare for serious problems. Unfortunately, a morning car trip towards the Tatra Mountains may end in the town of Gaj, right after leaving Krakow. On Saturday, from 10 a.m., the pedestrian crossing on National Road No. 7 is to be blocked. This is how members of the Zielona Gmina Mogilany Association want to express their opposition to the construction of the railway line to Myślenice. “The recent correction of the Kraków-Myślenice railway route did not in any way change the situation of the inhabitants of the Mogilany commune, who will have the railway next to their houses, it will be 10 meters from the planned tracks. Therefore, we are forced to take to the streets,” says Anna Skubas, one of the people involved in the protests, in an interview with Gazeta Krakowska. The strike is expected to last several hours, at least until 1 p.m. The action will be coordinated by the police.
Access to Zakopane by train
In this situation, a better solution will be to travel to Zakopane by train on Saturday. Travelers can use regular Intercity and regional connections from Krakow, as well as a fast train from Warsaw. From December 21, a special train of Koleje Śląskie from Częstochowa will also be available every weekend. The “Ornak” train will stop along the way, among others: in Katowice, Sosnowiec and Pszczyna. A car is also not useful when getting to the ski slopes. Thanks to the Bolt application entering the market, we can easily reach the most inaccessible places, even if we do not have our own vehicle.
