A new discount system will launch in Zakopane during the May weekend. Each hotel and guesthouse guest will receive a QR code.

How to save on your stay in Zakopane? Just use the Zakopane Tourist Card, which will debut on May 1, 2026. Access to the program via a QR code will be granted to tourists who pay the local fee upon check-in. The package will be active for the duration of your stay and, in addition to discounts, will also include many useful features. “We will see what the demand will be and whether there will be a need to generate a plastic card, similarly to the Resident Card,” says deputy mayor Iwona Grzebyk-Dulak in an interview with Gazeta Krakowska.

How does the Zakopane Tourist Card work?

The launch of a loyalty program for tourists visiting Zakopane is approaching. On April 17, the City Hall opened the official recruitment process for external partners, and the start is scheduled for May 1, 2026. The system is to be intuitive to use. However, you will be required to have a smartphone and pay the tax upon accommodation. “A person who pays the local fee at a hotel or guesthouse will receive a QR code. They will have to confirm their identity by entering the system, and then they will have active packages for the duration of their stay,” explains Iwona Grzebyk-Dulak. The City Hall does not rule out that special plastic cards dedicated to the program will appear in the future.

Entrepreneurs are very interested in joining the project. For now, however, it is not known which specific cafes, restaurants and attractions in the region will ultimately be on the list – this information will only be presented during the May weekend.

There will be no free buses

One of the most important benefits for tourists using the Zakopane card was to be free travel on public transport. Unfortunately, it turns out that for now this request of the councilors cannot be met. However, there is a chance for such a solution in the future.

In addition to discounts, beneficiaries will also receive access to the most important information about the region in the form of a digital guide. However, subsequent program functions will be made available in stages.
