Tourists in “trouble” at Morskie Oko. They alerted TOPR again

Morskie Oko

A group of tourists at Morskie Oko contacted TOPR. They were afraid to walk back along the trail in the dark.

Once again, the finale of the trip to Morskie Oko was a call to TOPR rescuers. Last Sunday, a group of thirty tourists got stuck near the most famous Polish lake after darkness fell over the Tatra Mountains. “They were on Włosienica, they reported that the horses were no longer riding, it was dark, they were tired, there was a long way ahead of them. They were not prepared for such an end to the journey,” said Krzysztof Długopolski, a TOPR rescuer, in an interview with Gazeta Krakowska.

Tourists had problems returning from Morskie Oko

The relatively simple trail from Morskie Oko turned out to be too much of a challenge again. All because of the darkness, which the group of thirty-something tourists had not expected so early. Concerned hikers contacted TOPR on Sunday, November 10, around 6 p.m. It was quickly established that no one in the group was injured, and the only problem was the lack of lighting and the carriages, which were no longer running at that time. “We managed to convince these people to form a group and set off on foot to Palenica Białczańska. Someone there had a flashlight,” reports Krzysztof Długopolski. The tourists managed to return safely to the parking lot and did not contact rescuers again.

Unfortunately, this is not the first such situation. “A few years ago, during New Year’s Eve, several dozen people got stuck on Włosienica after dark. They put all the services on their feet because they had no way to get down,” writes Gazeta Krakowska.

Interruption of electric buses

Tourists should remember not only that it is completely dark in the Tatra Mountains at 6 p.m. today (it is prohibited to travel on the trails after dark until November 30).

Due to difficult road conditions in winter, electric buses, which were an alternative to horse-drawn transport, will not run. Tourists must travel on foot on the trail to Morskie Oko.
