Tourists are giving up on one of Zakopane’s top attractions. “Prohibitive price”
The cable car to Kasprowy Wierch is one of Zakopane’s most popular attractions. However, ticket prices scare tourists away.
Tourists who like Zakopane have probably stood in a long queue to go up Kasprowy Wierch at least once in their life. The views from the top are beautiful and can be enjoyed even if you have never skied. Wirtualna Polska reports that the cable car ride to the top has not been very popular lately. The reason is the high ticket prices.
Are the entry prices to Kasprowy Wierch discouraging?
– That’s why I’m in a limited group today, the other half of the family chose another attraction. These tickets are really expensive – one of the tourists waiting for the line with her several-year-old son told the portal.
A family from Kujawy also noticed high prices.
– We would probably rather walk than take this cable car – said Mr. Sławomir, adding that in his opinion “the price is very prohibitive”. – That is why these cable cars run almost empty – he assessed.
A ride on the cable car in the high season is not exactly the cheapest. From June 22 to September 30, a regular ticket at automatic ticket offices costs PLN 139 (top-bottom), and a concession ticket costs PLN 115 (applies to people aged 5-26 and seniors 65+). For a two-person family with a child over 5, this is an expense of almost PLN 400.
Online tickets cost less
A one-way ticket costs PLN 115, and a reduced ticket costs PLN 95. Buying a ticket online can save you some money, but the price depends on the time you choose – it’s cheaper in the morning, but from 11 a.m. the price increases to PLN 139.
The year-round cable railway running through the Tatra National Park has been taking tourists from Kuźnice to the top of Kasprowy Wierch (1,987 metres above sea level) since 1936. The attraction underwent its last major renovation in 2007-2008. A one-way cable car ride to Kasprowy Wierch takes about 20 minutes and involves one change at Myślenickie Turnie.
