A European island has made reservations mandatory on some beaches. Available dates disappear in the blink of an eye.
A trip to the beach may require advance reservation. This is the case, for example, in Sardinia, where popular beach spots have introduced an obligation to pay in advance. This is all because of the daily tourist limit, which applies both on protected parts of the coast and in parking lots with a limited number of spaces. Demand far outweighs the available dates – there are no dates on the famous Pelosa beach until mid-September. However, tourists hunt for last minute deals.
Beaches in Sardinia only by prior reservation
Sardinia still remains a paradise for seekers of unspoilt landscapes. However, keeping natural wonders intact with increasing tourist pressure is a big challenge. One way to deal with the large number of guests during the holiday season is to limit the number of guests on selected, most popular beaches and to charge small fees. This is the case, for example, on the UNESCO-protected Cala Goloritzé beach, located on the eastern coast of Sardinia – from March to November, admission for an adult costs 7 euros, and the maximum number of people in one day is 250. As The Independent writes, in other parts of the Italian island, on the beaches of Cala Brigantina and Su Sirboni, such a system also operates in the summer. The daily limit of tourists there is 60 and 786 people, respectively.
No dates until September 15
What is happening on La Pelosa beach is madness. The attraction’s website currently states that all tickets are sold out by mid-September. There is still a chance to book a place last minute, i.e. two days in advance. However, this is quite a difficult task – available dates disappear in the blink of an eye. The only consolation is the fact that in the case of this beach, the entry price is rather symbolic and amounts to EUR 3.50. “Access to the white sands of La Pelosa beach is limited to 1,500 parking spaces per day from May to October. To access the beach, you must make a reservation and receive a QR code,” we read.
