Tornado in a popular tourist country. Poles often go there
Residents of eastern Spain experienced moments of terror. They were surprised by a tornado. Everything was recorded on camera.
On Friday afternoon, a tornado surprised residents of Villa de El Toro in the province of Castellón, Spain. At around 5 p.m., a column of swirling air formed in an agricultural area that did not enter the urban area.
The whole thing was recorded on camera.
“We are currently assessing the damage. We appreciate any help,” said Mayor José Arenes.
At the same time, he assured the city’s residents about the authorities’ readiness to deal with “any emergency situation” resulting from the tornado.
– At the moment, it does not seem that the tornado will cause any major damage. In any case, we are a small town that is mobilizing to help immediately – he added.
Tornado in Spain. Reason? Supercell thunderstorm
The local weather agency MeteoStorms said it believes the tornado was caused by a supercell storm. This is the most dangerous type of storm cloud: it can produce heavy rain, golf ball-sized hail, gusty winds, and occasionally destructive tornadoes. These types of storms are most common in the central United States, but they also occur in other parts of the world, including much of Europe, including Poland.
The most energetic air masses flow into our country from the south. Often, storms form over the Alps and move north and east, taking advantage of the natural conditions of the terrain.
“One of these routes is the Moravian Gate – a depression in the terrain between the Carpathians and the Sudetes, through which storms can more easily penetrate. The phenomenon of the “Polish tornado alley” in Silesia is a consequence of increasing storm activity in the Moravian Gate region, and more frequent and stronger storms increase the risk of more violent tornadoes in this area,” explains IMGW.
