Threat regarding Iga Świątek’s match. The hosts are afraid of this scenario

Let us remind you that Iga Świątek is defending the title won a year ago (2025) in Cincinnati. The Pole is in great shape and last night she won her tenth match in a row. Elena Rybakina had to retire at 1:4 in the first set. Thus, Świątek advanced to the best four of the WTA 1000 event.

Jessica Pegula had a much more difficult time in the quarterfinals than the Pole. The American faced her compatriot Amanda Anisimova. Ultimately, the first one mentioned, the senior US representative, came out on top.

What may be disturbing is that during the match Pegula asked for medical intervention. And in the case of this tennis player, it’s a very rare picture. This clearly shows that the matter was serious.

“Here’s what Pegula said about her ankle injury: if it had gotten worse, she would have reported it, but it didn’t, on the contrary – it got better. As I noticed, this was particularly disturbing because she rarely calls a physiotherapist, but she fought anyway,” we read in one of the entries on the X website.

Could there be a situation in which Pegula will not play in the match against Świątek? The American will definitely fight to compete with the Polish tennis player. The tournament in Cincinnati is a prestigious competition.

However, an argument that may have a negative impact is the US Open, which is just around the corner. Definitely the most important event in the calendar for U.S. representatives.

For now, the semi-final match between Pegula and Świątek is scheduled to take place on Saturday (i.e. August 22) local time.

As for Polish topics, it is impossible not to emphasize the bronze medal of the Olympic Games in the singles competition in Paris (2024). Świątek also won the Polish national team in the United Cup in Sydney (2026).
