This will be the loudest comeback! The penalty for doping for the world champion was reduced
The scorer of the World Cup-winning goal for France in 2018 returns to the game. Paul Pogba has just heard a new, shortened sentence for doping.
Let us recall that Paul Pogba was once considered one of the best second-line players in the world. The Frenchman charmed with his game, alternating brilliant performances with completely average ones. This was visible, among others, during Pogba’s stay at Manchester United. On the other hand, the Frenchman managed to become a world champion, scoring a title-worthy goal for Trójkorowy in 2018.
CAS: Paul Pogba with a shortened ban from playing football!
The Frenchman has just received permission from CAS (Court of Arbitration for Sport) to return to professional football. Originally, the penalty was to apply from the end of February 2024 for a period of four years. Reason? The Frenchman failed an anti-doping test and was suspended by the Italian Anti-Doping Agency (NADO). The banned substance DHEA, which is intended to increase testosterone production, was detected in the footballer’s body.
Pogba, however, maintained that he was innocent and should be suspended. It is worth noting that the Frenchman is a Juventus player, to which he returned after an unsuccessful stay at Manchester United. On Friday (i.e. October 4), it was reported that CAS had shortened the suspension from the above-mentioned four years to 18 months. What does this mean in practice? Pogba will be able to resume training in January 2025, and the gate to official appearances will open two months later, in March.
The footballer posted a telling photo on social media on Friday, suggesting a return to the football field. Pogba may be an interesting addition to Juventus’ squad. Before the suspension, the Frenchman was not the number 1 player, most often having health problems, i.e. more and more frequent injuries. However, if he actually returns to training and then to playing at a high level, Juventus may benefit from a player who will turn 32 in 2025.
