Crowded beaches are increasingly annoying tourists and locals. A program has been developed that allows you to find the perfect place for yourself.

Positive news comes from Portugal. It is to this European country that tourists come to visit Lisbon, the Algarve region or the quieter Alentejo. Now there is a new application that allows you to discover unique beaches there. You don’t have to pay anything for it.

New for beachgoers in Portugal

The free River Beaches app offers tourists a map of over 130 inland swimming spots in Portugal. It was noticed that many people are increasingly replacing crowded seaside resorts with calmer fresh waters surrounded by wildlife and it was decided to take advantage of this. Searching for the so-called secret places has been popular for a long time, and now it’s even easier.

Those interested can discover beaches hidden away from the crowded Algarve coast. Specific places appear in the application along with descriptions and photos, making it easy to choose the perfect one for yourself. Many of the sites featured on River Beaches are located in the forested mountainous areas of central Portugal, including around the Mondego, Zêzere and Alva rivers. Filters allow you to find those with restaurants, parking lots, toilets, lifeguards and beaches friendly to children and dogs.

In addition, the application allows you to see people who have already visited certain places, which will allow you to share your experiences and help you discover the best ways to spend your time.

The application is under development

As we read on euronews.com, the software is currently only available in the Apple App Store, which means that iPhone users will be eligible. Nevertheless, the application will soon also appear on Google Play, supported by most other smartphones. Please note that support is available in three languages: Portuguese, English and Spanish.

An alternative to the news is the long-known Praia em Directo, which provides detailed information about Portuguese seaside and river beaches in real time. Those interested can obtain, among others: information about water quality, temperature and lifeguards.
