“One trail, one big family” – this is how the creators of the Facebook profile @TATRY sum up the situation in the Polish mountains. It got very crowded on the way to Hala Gąsienicowa in Zakopane. The reason is clear. Everyone wants to take photos with the purple glade.

The crowds in the Tatra Mountains took their toll

The recording published on social media is astonishing. Some react without surprise, because it was similar in previous years, others experience shock and quickly regret that they did not go there like others. Everyone was heading in one direction – towards the clearings with pink and purple carpets of willowherb flowers. This characteristic plant blooms only at the turn of July and August.

Many tourists postpone their visit to the Tatra Mountains especially for this time and plan their trip well in advance. All it takes is for the weather to be good on the weekend – and that was the case this time – for a large group of people to gather. There are people who even break the rules and go where they are not allowed to take beautiful photos. If you also intend to go there, remember not to trample on protected areas.

Comments posted under the Instagram post @tatry_official show that although it was noisy, many tourists liked it. “It was nice” “Great, Poles are discovering the Tatra Mountains with their whole families”, “It’s good that people are leaving their homes! The mountains will welcome everyone” – we read.

Others were more skeptical and wrote that in such an atmosphere the mountains lose their natural charm. “I was there a year ago – I will never go to the Polish Tatra Mountains in August again,” assured one of the Internet users.

Another person suggested those who were dissatisfied to look elsewhere. “There were so few people in the Beskid Sądecki and Niski Mountains that I walked for 2 hours and didn’t meet anyone on the trail. Although the Tatra Mountains are beautiful, I recommend going a little to other mountain ranges in this high season,” we read. Do crowds in the mountains bother you?
