Tourists are attracted to large cities not only by monuments, but also by zoos full of interesting animals. New residents appeared in one of them.

Such an event has been awaited for years. Now the Orientarium Zoo in Łódź is proud of its happiness, where Asiatic lions were born. Known to residents and tourists, Shiva and Loki have two young people: a boy and a girl. They were shown in recordings published online. The view is heartbreaking.

Little lions in the Łódź zoo

The presence of new residents in the Łódź garden aroused so much emotion that even the mayor of the city, Hanna Zdanowska, shared the news on Facebook. “We have been waiting for this for over twenty years. Something amazing happened in Łódź,” we read in her post. She emphasized that it was a reason to be proud and the result of the great knowledge, heart and daily work of the entire zoo team.

Currently, the little ones are resting, but in some time they will be able to meet visitors to the garden. Internet users make it clear that they are delighted and are waiting for such a meeting. “Congratulations for such beautiful specimens, they are beautiful”, “Wonderful”, “How beautiful they are” – we read in the comments section on Facebook.

Asiatic lions. They don’t appear very often

Breeding of Asiatic lions in Poland began in 1996 and is a very demanding activity. The last lion cub born in Łódź was Tycia, who was born in September 2005. During the press conference at which the new birth was announced, emotions were not hidden.

“The Łódź Zoo has a long history of breeding Asiatic lions, so this birth means a lot to us,” admitted Michał Gołędowski, director of breeding and development at Orientarium Zoo Łódź.

Asiatic lions are a subspecies of Panthera leo and live in the wild only in India. They are distinguished by many features, including: a characteristic fold of skin on the belly, they also have a sparse mane and smaller size. According to data from the Indian Ministry of Environment, 891 individuals were counted in 2025.
