Incidents during flights happen, but some can be particularly disturbing. Spanish services revealed that passengers were left alone for 10 minutes on board the German line.

I am talking about the case of February 17, 2024. It is an incident during which the Lufthansa plane flying from Frankfurt over Spain straight to Seville, was deprived of any control. One pilot fainted and the other was in the toilet. Only recently the report results were published and the details were known.

The plane was flying without a pilot

Although theoretically there were as many as two pilots on board, in practice for about 10 minutes passengers could not count on any. It turned out that the one who was sitting at the helm, lost consciousness, was pale, sweated intensively and performed inadverted movements. The second pilot discovered it only after returning from the toilet. He wanted to enter the cockpit, but he couldn’t open the door. It was necessary to enter the alarm code to master the situation.

It was then that it came to light, what happened and a rescue operation was initiated. The aircraft had a self -pilot function, which is why it stayed safely on the course. The pilot who fainted received medical assistance on board and regained consciousness. Despite this, it was decided to emergency landing in Madrid at Barajas airport.

There were over 200 people on board

The incident can definitely be considered dangerous. It is known that he exposed 199 passengers and six crew members to danger. According to a report transferred by the Spanish committee, examination of accidents and incidents in civil aviation (CIAIAC), the pilot suffered from a neurological disease, which was not demonstrated by prior examinations. He could not prevent the incident, because he had no idea that something was wrong with him.

The Aviación Digital portal emphasized that the incident proves that it is important that there are always two people in the cockpit of the aircraft – in the absence of one of the pilots of a steward or flight attendant. Currently, airlines are encouraged to stick to this important rule.

Lufthansa announced that she had been conducting her own report, but she did not publish the results. “Please understand that we will not give comments beyond the investigation report,” it was announced in a press release.

It is known that the pilot was taken to the hospital shortly after landing, and his aviation and medical ruling entitling to fly was suspended.
