This place between the mountains delights tourists. This is what the “Slovak sea” looks like

Palcmanská Maša

A European country boasts of a “sea” hidden between mountains. Even though it is not the Baltic Sea, it still delights with its views and power.

Not every country has access to the sea. This is the case, among others, with the Czech Republic or Slovakia. Instead, they boast about alternatives that are supposed to be a substitute for a reservoir like the Baltic or Adriatic Sea. You probably haven’t heard of one of these places yet. It is located about 50 km from the Polish border and has mesmerizing views.

Here Slovakia has its “sea”

We are talking about a place known as Palcmanská Maša, which is the largest water reservoir in the Slovak Paradise National Park. It attracts tourists on hot days, but even in autumn it is worth visiting. Interestingly, the reservoir called the sea is located between the mountains, which gives it a unique atmosphere.

When relaxing there, you can count on good quality water, appreciated and checked by the Public Health Office of the Slovak Republic. Entertainment is provided by boats, pedal boats, beaches, as well as cottages, apartments and campsites. One of the attractions is a walk around the reservoir, where the route is very easy and gentle.

Near the “Slovak sea”, another hit is a unique, working, one-person cable car in Slovakia. It runs from Dedinki to the Geravy plateau and was first launched in 1970.

Palcmanská Maša surprises tourists

Journalists of the website dobrenoviny.sk assure that during the holiday season, not only Slovaks, but also Czechs and Poles could be heard on the water. This means that the place is popular. Importantly, it is located about 50 km from the border with Poland, so it is not difficult for us to access.

The “Slovak sea” also amazes with its history and size. Palcmanská Maša covers an area of 86.5 hectares and was built in 1948–1954. Originally, it was intended mainly to collect water for the Dobšiná hydroelectric power plant and to regulate the flow of the Hnilca River. Gradually, however, this facility became a popular place to relax.

To get there, head towards Dedinky.
