This PKP train will run throughout Poland. It hides a unique story

The Border Guard is celebrating its 35th anniversary this year. On this occasion, in cooperation with PKP Intercity, a special initiative was prepared commemorating the history of protecting Polish borders and people who played an important role in building Poland’s security system.

JOne of the trains of the national carrier was named after General Jan Kazimierz Kruszewski, and a locomotive with a commemorative graphic referring to the formation’s anniversary rolled onto the tracks.

The ceremonial presentation of the project took place on June 15 at the Warszawa Zachodnia Railway Station. The event was attended by representatives of the state administration, the Border Guard and railway companies. The guests included: deputy head of the Ministry of Interior and Administration Wiesław Szczepański, commander-in-chief of the Border Guard, Maj. Gen. SG Robert Bagan, president of PKP SA Dr. Alan Beroud and president of PKP Intercity Janusz Malinowski. Anna Zamłyńska, representing the family of General Kruszewski, also took part in the ceremony.

During the event, it was presented a train running on the Łódź Fabryczna – Gdynia Główna route, which from now on will be called “Generał Kruszewski”. The train, driven by a locomotive with a jubilee veneer, is intended to remind passengers about the history of Polish border formations and their importance for state security. The organizers emphasize that “the project has not only a symbolic, but also educational dimension.”

General Jan Kazimierz Kruszewski is one of the most important figures involved in the protection of the borders of the Second Polish Republic. He commanded the Border Protection Corps, a formation established to secure the eastern borders of the country. During his service, a number of reforms were carried out to increase the effectiveness of KOP activities. The network of guard stations was expanded, communication systems were modernized, logistics was improved and investments were made in officer training.

As representatives of the Border Guard emphasize, “the ideas that guided General Kruszewski remain valid today.” “The modern formation uses modern technologies, such as drones, observation systems and advanced equipment used to protect the state border and the external border of the European Union,” it was emphasized.
