A park like this can take walkers away from everyday routine, sadness and nostalgia. Even in autumn it attracts with its colors.
We are talking about a Warsaw gem located in the Śródmieście district. Some may think that this is about the Royal Łazienki Park, but not this time. We mean Ujazdowski Park – equally historic, with elegant alleys and sculptures, which attracts residents and tourists.
Ujazdowski Park – the pearl of Śródmieście
Greenery Board of the capital city Warsaw describes this park as a green treasure in the city center. It is not only an oasis of peace, but also a kind of art center, perfect for romantic walks. Autumn is perfect for such trips, especially when colorful leaves fall from the trees and the space gains a unique aura.
Ujazdowski Park is an example of Polish garden art of the late 19th century. There you can find many species of trees, flower beds, viewpoints, a pond, peace and quiet. It also boasts a long history, hosting walkers for over 100 years.
In the 13th century, in the area of today’s park, there was a settlement called Jazdów, from which the name of the area comes. The area changed its appearance and owners many times, and was also destroyed during the Swedish Deluge. It was opened in its current form in 1896 and, interestingly, it has not suffered any damage since then, even during World War II. Today, the place has an English style, which it owes to Franciszek Szanior. Over the years, it gained more and more new attractions, including: a bridge or a playground. It still delights with its many treasures – from natural ones to architectural works.
These are the most valuable treasures of this place
If you are art lovers, pay attention to, among others: to the historic scale at the gate from Piękna Street, a bridge, a stone cascade, a wooden gazebo and numerous sculptures, e.g. “Eve” by Edward Wittig, “Perseus” by Theodor Charles Gruyere or “Gladiator” by Pius Wieloński.
People who love nature cannot miss three natural monuments, such as the English oak with a trunk circumference of nearly 500 cm, the black walnut and the maple next to the “Ewa” sculpture. Moreover, it is easy to meet squirrels, hedgehogs, martens and many other animals there.
How to get to this park? The main entrance is from Al. Ujazdowskie, but you can also enter from the square at Rozdrożu, Piękna Street and ul. Lennon. However, it should be remembered that the place is closed at night, because in 1965 it was placed under protection and entered into the register of monuments.
