There is only one hotel and one road on this island. Despite everything, it is one of the unique ones in the world. Yemen’s Socotra is an ideal choice for January and other winter months.

You can find non-obvious and picturesque travel suggestions by browsing Facebook travel groups. On one of them called “Trips, Travels” we saw the option of going to Yemen to the island of Socotra. After seeing a few photos from this area, you will immediately fall in love. Visitors can expect landscapes there that are difficult to find anywhere else.

A unique island for a January trip

Sokorta is a very isolated island off the southeastern coast of Yemen in the Indian Ocean. It is often called one of the most unique places on earth. The views are so picturesque that you may feel like you are admiring a place from a fantasy movie. The climate there is desert and subtropical.

It is worth flying to Socotra in Yemen in winter. It is said that this is one of the best times of the year to go there. Temperatures are milder than usual, and in January you can count on over 20 degrees. Currently, it is usually around 24 degrees there in December. There is plenty of sun and warm water perfect for diving.

Local attractions include unusual vegetation that cannot be seen anywhere else in the world. Impressive, among others, dragon, bottle and cucumber deva. You can also swim in emerald lagoons or climb steep dunes. While on site, you can use, among others: from Aomak beach, visits the Dagub cave and the Homhil protected area full of flamingos and herons. There are many more such attractions.

Going there is happiness and luxury

Lucky people who have a lot of money at their disposal can boast about their stay in Sokotarta. However, it is not difficult to find offers from people who organize trips to the place. One of the Facebook groups proposes a trip from January 13 to 22. “The price of the package is USD 2,150 and you need to add a local flight for approximately USD 930 + a Wawa/Abu Dhabi flight for PLN 2,500,” we read in the announcement. The comments show that there are people interested. Many people point out that purchasing a flight to the island is not that easy. “February and March there are no longer flights available to Socotra. This is an opportunity to get yourself a Christmas present,” we read.

The place, although expensive and non-obvious, is definitely worth visiting. There are as many as 825 species of plants and an extremely large number of species of marine and land animals. The place is so unique that it was included on the UNESCO World Heritage List. There we will find only one asphalt road, one hotel and we will almost completely escape from technology.
